Unless you are carrying out a Media boycott (not a bad idea), almost everyone has now heard about the 28-year-old woman from Georgia who was left paralyzed after experiencing a stroke during a Chiropractic adjustment of the neck.  Every person who reads this feels a substantial level of grief for this young lady and her family/friends.

The sensationalism surrounding such an unfortunate event is driven by the Media’s desire to sell advertising (see click-bait) and uncover “Dirty laundry” for more media hype.  What is remarkable is the complete and utter lack of responsibility the Media demonstrates by not performing their due diligence.  If they did, they would find that Forensic Pathologists upon questioning in a courtroom setting/deposition have testified numerous times that “dissection of the vertebral artery in a healthy adult neck cannot occur in the absence of dislocation of a cervical vertebra”.  Therefore, this young lady had a pathological predisposition to vertebral artery dissection that could have been made manifest by something as simple as hanging her head back over a wash basin having her hair done, or turning her head to look for oncoming traffic at a merge.  Any initiating event would be equally devastating to her and her family, but less enticing to the Media horde.

I bring this up in a blog since there will be individuals who have not realized the benefits of Chiropractic care who will now be afraid of an incredibly beneficial healing art where the benefits heavily outweigh the risks.  The Actuarial Tables for the Malpractice Industry are truly the best indicator.  Based upon the same level of Malpractice coverage, a PCP pays 5 times as much as a Chiropractor, and a specialist (Dermatologist, Endocrinologist, Neurologist, etc.) pays 12-15 times as much. Lastly, a surgeon (orthopedic, neuro, general) pays a minimum of 20 times as much as a Chiropractor.

In conclusion, medical errors result in more than 250,000 to 440,000 preventable deaths per year (less than 5% reported).  Yes, that makes medical errors the third leading cause of death behind heart disease at #1 and cancer at #2.  And NO, Covid-19 is not the 3rd leading cause of death in the US…. contrary to the misinformation and disinformation provided by the Media!
